Creation of the Rebuild Iowa Office and the Rebuild Iowa Advisory Commission is to rebuild safer, stronger and smarter
(DES MOINES) – Iowa’s response to the floods and tornadoes of 2008 has been highlighted as a model for other states in an article appearing in the online publication DomPrep Journal.The publication is produced for professionals from a variety of disciplines who deal with preparedness and response to emergencies and disasters.The article outlines the decisions made by Gov. Chet Culver and Iowa Legislators to assist the state in short- and long-term disaster recovery.
The article discusses how Culver “established the Rebuild Iowa Office (RIO) and the Rebuild Iowa Advisory Commission (RIAC). The order’s intent was to ‘turn tragedy into opportunity by building back smarter, stronger, more sustainably, and safer than before’.”
