Anyone with a FEMA number can become a member for free for one year. Members can borrow tools for free, we have LOTS of tools, and if we don't have it, we can probably get it.
Membership for non flood-affected community members is just $25 a year (a steal), and for organizations such as service groups or neighborhood associations, it is $75 a year.
To borrow a tool, you must leave a deposit, which is refunded when the tool is returned in good working order.
After the Flood of 2008, local homeowners had many issues to deal with in restarting their lives and establishing a sense of home in the Cedar Rapids Community. One way the Matthew 25 Ministry responded was to establish a free tool library to help flooded homeowners save on the cost of tool rental in the rebuilding process.
With help from the 2008 Flood Fund and many other generous gifts, the Tool Library has accumulated a massive inventory of tools for you to use. It is conveniently located in the Community Recovery Center at 220 6th St. NW, a facility which houses several agencies working to help with flood recovery.
The Tool Library requires patrons to sign up for a one year membership that is free of cost to flood affected residents. Non-flooded residents pay a small annual fee ($25 as of April 2009). Rental periods are for one week for most tools and rental renewal is as simple as one phone call.
For framing, drywalling, mudding, sanding, landscaping and lawn maintenance, siding, refurbishing wooden floors, installing carpet, finish work, and custom carpentry, the Matthew 25 Tool Library has every tool you need.
You may contact the Tool Library at (319) 491-4466 for any questions regarding tool rental and general inquiry.
